What can we be thankful for this time of year? It’s the season of holidays, and Thanksgiving is the next one. This is the holiday where we focus on being thankful, but we can often become consumed in the party preparations and excitement of Turkey Day. While it is exciting to gather with family and have a delicious, homemade meal with turkey, mashed potato, pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce, it’s important to remember to be thankful. We can wonder on certain days (like those bad hair days) what there is that we can thank God for, but if we stop and think about it for a minute or two, there is so much to appreciate in our lives. Sometimes, though, just like the question above asks, ‘What can we be thankful for?’ We wonder. Below I have a couple of verses we can go back to on those not-so-awesome days.
Psalm 139:14- I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
We can be thankful for the thought God put in us when we were created, even for the hair that’s not behaving today.
John 3:16– For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. We can be thankful for how much God loves us–even when it feels like no one else does.
Ephesians 3:12– In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
We can be thankful for our liberty. Even when we can’t bring the physical Bible to school, we can carry it in our hearts.
Jeremiah 29:11- For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” We can be thankful for God’s plan for us. Even when we are insecure and unsure, God is with us and for us.
These are just a few things for which we can give thanks. Happy early Thanksgiving! ~Halle Belle
